No state income tax
Florida doesn't tax wages or retirement income at the state level. For many Northern families, it's the biggest line on the budget that changes.

Homestead exemption
Make Florida your primary home and you can apply to lower your home's assessed value, with a cap on how fast it can rise each year.

CDD fees
Many newer Pasco and Hillsborough communities carry a Community Development District fee. It shows up on the tax bill, not the HOA statement.

Flood zone sets insurance
What you'll pay to insure a home depends heavily on its flood zone, age and roof. Ask for quotes before you fall in love with a house.
